Choosing the proper lubricant to use with your vibrator

Before you turn the motor on your new vibrator, you’re going to want to grab a bottle of sexual lubricant to make the experience wet, slippery and most important, comfortable.

For the ladies, your Rabbit vibrator might make you gush out more than you thought you could cum, but it’s not enough, and well, men know the deal with the anus. The point is everyone needs a good sexual lubricant when using a vibrator, especially those designed for internal use.

Picking and choosing your lubricant is by no means rocket science, but it can be difficult. For starters, there are many different sexual lubricants out there, and they are made with many different liquids.

Here’s the 411 on what you need:

  • Water-based lubricants – Water is the universal lubricant. By itself, water probably isn’t the best lubricant unless you’re submerged in it, but we’ll get to that later. These lubes will give you the most natural feel, and for the most part safe for those who have sensitive skin. Water-based lubricants can also be used on any kind of sex toy. They are easy to clean off you and your toys, because after all they are made of water! The only downer is that these lubricants quickly absorb into your skin and are basically useless with a waterproof toy underwater.
  • Silicone-based lubricants – For all of you that like to play with your vibrators underwater, there is hope. Silicone-based lubricants are perfect because they won’t wash away in the tub, pool or any other place where you are covered in water. These lubricants last longer, and if they seem to dry up, just revive the lube with some saliva or a bit of water. Silicone lubricants don’t absorb or evaporate, but they are a little harder to wash off, and require a lathering up of soap and water. Unfortunately, silicone-based lubricants are not compatible with silicone toys. The materials rub against each other and eventually degrade the material of your vibrator. So, stay away from silicone on silicone lovin’.
  • Petroleum-based lubricants – These lubricants are the best kind to use with anal vibrators because they are thicker, thus providing the extra slickness needed to penetrate that tight backdoor drop. Some of these lubes also have a desensitizer in the formula to ease the pain of penetration, especially for first timers. What you’ll want to avoid is using a petroleum-based lubricant with latex toys or condoms, because it will wear away the material. In addition, petroleum can irritate a woman’s vagina, so opt for this one only if you need it and stick to use with anal vibrators.
  • Stuff in your bathroom cabinet – It might be tempting to use baby oil, Vaseline™ or some other product that you already own as a lubricant for your vibrator. Don’t. Even if these products are very slippery and stay wet, they are not specifically designed for play with a vibrator. These products can ruin your toy or cause harm to you if they are not intended for internal use. Stick with the commercial stuff that is meant for sex toy play.

How to use a lubricant with your vibrator

Now that you’ve got the lowdown on all the lubricants available, here are some quick tips on how to use them with your vibrator.

  • Start with a dime size, pour it into your hands
  • Rub your palms together to warm the lube up
  • Generously apply to your vibrator, covering the shaft, head and any clitoral or anal stimulators
  • If you need more lube, work your way up. If you need less, wipe some off and keep in mind to use less than a dime-sized amount next time
  • Have some slippery fun with your vibrator!
